Homes and farmland are disappearing before the eyes of residents

Nazma Begum (46), a housewife from Sherpur Sadar Upazila, was forced to leave her home one night, clutching her four children. She saw her last refuge disappearing into the river before her eyes. In this situation, she did not know where to go or what to do. Expressing her helplessness, this resident of Bhagalghar village said in a tearful voice, "The Brahmaputra River has washed away our home in front of our eyes. Where will we go with the water we have?"

For now, Nazma has taken shelter in someone else's house with her daily wage laborer husband Abdullah and their children. However, she is looking at the darkness in her eyes, wondering where she will go in the future. This pain or helplessness of losing her home in the Brahmaputra River is not only Nazma Begum's alone, but also the same plight of nearly a hundred families in Dakshin Bhagalghar village of Charpakshimari Union. The families complain that they have become destitute due to the lack of effective measures taken by the government to prevent erosion.
